We all woke up early Saturday and boarded the boat for a trip to Luke's Lagoon. It is about a 20 minute trip to this little private island, and it was so beautiful. We anchored the boat, turned on the music, pitched a tent and enjoyed a long day on the beach.
I went up to the top of a sand dune to take in the panorama. It was bittersweet. My family and I have been coming to this beach since I was a newborn, and with all the reports of the oil slick approaching it made it sad to imagine that this pretty place might be gone. I hope that the effects of this catastrophe aren't permanent and that one day very soon the beaches will be back to how I have know them my whole life.
