Splash Pad And Bust
Perkerson Park just recently got a new splash pad, so us three went over to check it out yesterday. Tudor-Beach and I found a nice spot under a tree, so she could sleep. And Muffin just took off. I almost don't want to even post about it because of the end of the day..but he had a blast running around. Every time he passed by me, he would wave and say "Hey Gita!" Then a boy a bit older than him started chasing him. They were having fun, and then a few older guys started chiming in on the game. They would grab Solon by the arms and place him over a fountain...and then they would start laughing. I stood up and almost interjected, but Solon came running up to me and said he was having fun with his friends. This went on for a while and then very quickly I saw one boy grab Solon, put his arms behind his back and strong armed his face into a fountain. All I saw was Muffin struggling and trying to get away..and I was running to him and screaming for everyone to let go. I knocked one kid to the ground and then picked Muffin up. It broke my heart. He was gagging and coughing..and I could tell he was trying not to cry..and then he just let it out. It had scared him.
I stood there and looked around at the handful of adults who were there...a couple of them sitting within arms length of where it happened...and they didn't say a word to me. Nothing. All I could think was..were they just going to sit there and let a little boy drown in a fountain? How far would they have let it go? And all the kids. Scattered. We packed up and stormed off to the car, and I had one young lady come up to me and say she was sorry about what happened and I sure did scare those boys. I was like "I hope to hell I did."
It sucks. All Solon wanted to do afterwards was ask me why those boys were mean to him and tried to hurt him. And I didn't have an answer.
