Poor Planning

When we make a trip to Greenwood, we all stay in Starkville the night before. It helps break up the long drive and is close enough to Nanna's that we can arrive early to her house. It is never a problem booking a room last minute...except this time. Sally and I started looking at hotels in the middle of last week. We wanted a couple of rooms for that Friday night. We looked at the Hampton Inn. Full. The Holiday Inn Express. Booked. We were told it is graduation weekend, and we quickly realized we were not going to have much luck. We talked on the phone, and I mentioned to Sally the Regal Inn. A dive motel that is connected to Dave's Dark Horse Tavern, a bar we all used to go to back when we went to State.
Jason was a little ambivalent, but Sally called up the Regal. And sure enough. They were "wide open." And a room cost $55. That included taxes. So we booked three. Anyway, we showed up and the manager told us that he couldn't give us keys because the card access system was broken. So whenever we needed to get into a room, we had to shuffle over to his office and have him walk over and open our door with the master key. I think my room was the least opulent. I walked around at first trying to turn on lights, and none of them worked. I thought they were broken until closer inspection. Nope. They just didn't have light bulbs:)
The rooms weren't that bad overall. The heat worked and they had mini-fridges and microwaves. And we always get to tell people that we braved the Regal Inn.
