And tonight I am busy packing. The past few days have been pretty crazy. Quick rundown.
Sunday afternoon I was taking a nap, and I heard our doorbell ring and Jay talking to someone. When I came downstairs he told me it was a 14 year old kid who was asking if he could rake our yard. Jay had told him no thanks. About 30 minutes later, we decided to head to the park/go on a walk, and we loaded Solon into the stroller and started heading off the front porch. And the 14 year old boy was in the street without a rake and two older guys flanking him. We all started walking in the same direction...all three of them a little ahead of us. They kept turning around and looking at us..and Jay and I both made a few comments about how sketchy they looked and we should do a better job about using our alarm.
We hit the park, but Solon (who has been sick for the past few days) just wasn't up for it, so we decided to walk back home. We stroll up. I head inside..and all of a sudden hear Jay yell out..."Where are our cars?" I walked outside and both the 4Runner and Jeep were gone. We went into full on panic and called 911. The police showed up pretty quickly, and we had to scramble around to provide the VIN numbers to both cars as well as a description of the three guys we thought were pretty suspect. Strollers, car seats, golf clubs, toys, books, CDS, sunglasses (one pair being the white Raybans my dad gave me our last Christmas together) and my wallet....all in these cars. So we had to cancel cards and notify our insurance carrier what had happened. Needless to say Sunday night was not fun. My friend/neighbor Erik posted a notification on our neighborhood website to get the word out on the stolen property, and Jay and I just sat by the phone. Sure enough around 10 pm Jay's phone rang, and it was an officer in Cobb County. They apprehended a young male driving Jay's 4Runner.
Monday we have to go collect the car at an impound lot way out on I-20. It didn't have any damage to it, but in the front seat was a red ski cap. The exact one worn by one of the people we described to the police. We got back home, and Erik called and said someone in an adjacent neighborhood had contacted him after seeing the website. She said that she saw a set of golf clubs and some books in an alley near her house. We called the police, and the officer collected everything and brought it to us to identify. And sure enough it was Jay's clubs. Untouched.
So as of now the detective is putting the screws to the person they have in custody, and we will see if my car turns up as a result. Very stressful situation.
But now we are getting ready for Thanksgiving! We rented a cabin in Alabama that will house a whole slew of us. Let's see if I can give a rundown of everyone. Jason, Sally, Luke, Matt, Adam, Kelly, Harvey, Barb, Momma/Peggy, me, Jay, Solon, Janie, Ann, Pam, Amber, Amber's son, Stephen, Nancy and Mattox. I think that covers everyone! Anyway. Excited!
So wishing everyone a great Thanksgiving!
